VolunteersStorybook Island offers volunteer opportunities in a variety of areas. We need your help. As a volunteer, you gain valuable skills, meet new people and achieve a proud sense of contributing to your community.
Volunteer your time and talent and everyone becomes a winner.
Volunteer opportunities exist in the following areas: Park Maintenance - Painting, Upkeep and Construction Literacy - Reading to children at daily story time Arts & Crafts - Helping children participate and create unique art projects Gardening - Helping plant and maintain gardens within Storybook Island Park Fund Raising - Essential to the park remaining admissions free and open Train Driving - Driving children around the park in the Storybook Line. There are three shifts available each day: 10:00-12:30, 12:30-3:00, and 3:00-5:00.
Volunteer Special Events Easter Egg Hunt - Help organize or supervise the event Christmas Lighting - Help string lights throughout the park Fall Festival & Country Carnival - Annual Fund Raiser (NEW!)
Who May Volunteer Anyone can become a volunteer. Persons of all ages and abilities have something valuable to contribute. Applicants under 18 must have parental or legal guardian consent.
What to Expect All volunteers serve without pay and need to love working with children. However, reimbursement of out-of-pocket expenses may be available. Storybook Island does not carry medical or accident insurance for volunteers. We suggest that you review your family's personal health insurance plan to be sure that it provides you with sufficient coverage.
Volunteer participants and those legally responsible for them shall indemnify and save harmless the Storybook Island Park, Board of Directors, its agents, officers, officials and employees from and against any liability, claims, demands, expenses, fees, fines, penalties, suits, proceedings of action and causes of actions of any and every kind of nature arising out of or in any way connected with providing volunteer services for Storybook Island Park.
Volunteers are limited only by their willingness to serve. You may work full time or just a few hours each week. You will receive a general orientation as well as training specific to your need.
